
SLIIN together with the Participatory Development Foundation (PDF), commemorated International Women’s Day on 8th March 2026 in Anamaduwa with the participation of women micro-entrepreneurs of the Diriliya Project.
The event was organized under the theme “Women are the Nation’s Pride and the Path to Future Prosperity.” Around 50 women entrepreneurs attended the program, which focused on empowering women through awareness and knowledge-sharing sessions.
The sessions addressed several important topics including:
• Prevention of domestic violence and strengthening female leadership
• Psychosocial approaches for healing and mental wellbeing of women
• Financial literacy for improved family wellbeing and economic stability

A significant outcome of the program was the initiative taken by the participating women to establish a “Women in Need Society” at the village level. This community group aims to raise awareness on women’s issues and strengthen local support systems, with continued guidance and support from the Participatory Development Foundation (PDF).
During the proceedings, Ms. Chathuri, Media and Communication Coordinator of PDF, delivered an insightful presentation highlighting the historical evolution of women’s rights and the global significance of International Women’s Day.
The event was also addressed by Ms. Anita Tamming, Founder of The Innerwork Lab, the organization that financially supported the programme, who joined the gathering through video technology.”
The event concluded with a renewed commitment from participants to work collectively towards women’s empowerment, community leadership, and inclusive rural development.
